About

My love for farming began with summers spent on my grandparents’ and aunt and uncle’s (Connie and John) farms. Those days were filled with hard work but also a sense of peace and comfort. Gardening and preserving the harvest were my favorite pastimes.

As an adult living near Minneapolis, I continued to garden and regularly visited the farm. The joy of planting, nurturing, and preserving produce with Aunt Connie was a cherished annual tradition.

In 2020, the lockdown made city life feel stifling. I yearned for the solace of farm life and decided to take a leap of faith. Leaving behind a 40-year career as a meeting planner, I embraced the life of a produce farmer.

Farming is far from a fairytale. I was warned about its harsh realities and financial struggles. Many advised me not to quit my day job. But I took the plunge anyway. While it’s not financially lucrative, the emotional rewards are immense.

With Connie and John’s support, we started growing herbs and vegetables for farmers’ markets. We faced numerous challenges, including unpredictable weather, pests, endless labor, and long hours under the sun. Yet, with each hurdle, I felt a sense of accomplishment.

As the season progressed, I sought a crop that would thrive in Minnesota with minimal daily care. Garlic emerged as the perfect choice. Attending the 2023 Garlic Festival in Hutchinson confirmed my hunch. Surrounded by passionate garlic farmers, I knew I had found my calling.

Now, as a member of the Sustainable Farmers Association, I have a network of garlic experts guiding me on this flavorful adventure. My Uncle John, with his vast farming knowledge, continues to be a valuable mentor. And Aunt Connie’s unwavering support and teachings on preserving produce are invaluable.

This is just the beginning of my journey as a garlic farmer. If you’re curious about farm life, seeking healthy recipes, or simply want to learn more about garlic, please subscribe to my bi-weekly newsletter. Thank you for visiting my website!
